Getting Started

Getting Started

What should I do before my first application?

Take a close-up photo of your face in natural light and save it. Changes happen so gradually that you won’t notice them from day to day. But after three months, comparing your photo from day one to how you look now will make the progress much more visible.

How do I apply it?

Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat it dry. Then dispense the prescribed amount (1 pump for face only, 2 pumps for face and neck) and dot the cream across your forehead, cheeks, chin, and nose. Gently massage it in. Avoid your eyes and lips. Wash your hands after applying, and wait a few minutes before putting anything else on your skin.

What time of day should I use it?

Each evening. Nighttime is best because estriol can make your skin a little more sensitive to sunlight, and using it at night reduces that risk. It also lets the cream work while your skin goes through its natural overnight repair process. Use sunscreen in the morning.

How many pumps should I use?

Use only the amount your prescription calls for: 1 pump for face only, 2 pumps for face and neck. Using more than prescribed won’t speed up results and may cause more irritation.

My pump isn’t dispensing properly. What do I do?

Press the pump several times to prime it before your first use — that’s normal for a new pump. If it’s still not working after that, contact your care team and we’ll help get it sorted.

When will I see results?

Most people notice their skin feels more hydrated within the first few weeks. Visible changes to tone, firmness, and texture usually start showing up between six and twelve weeks. The biggest difference is typically at the three-month mark. Results build slowly — that’s how collagen works. Stay consistent.

What does the timeline look like?

  • Weeks 1–2: Skin may feel slightly dry or look mildly red while adjusting. This is normal.

  • Weeks 2–4: Hydration improves. Skin starts to feel smoother and more even.

  • Weeks 5–11: Firmness and tone continue to improve as collagen builds.

  • Week 12 and beyond: Full results are visible. Daily use is needed to keep them.

I’m not seeing anything yet. Should I be concerned?

Not if you’re still in the first six weeks. These creams take time. Keep going. If you’ve been using it daily for three months and nothing has changed at all, message your care team — we’ll review how you’re applying it and whether any adjustments make sense.

Safety

Safety

Do I really need to wear sunscreen?

Yes, every morning. Both creams contain estriol, which can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. SPF 30 or higher protects your skin and helps preserve the collagen you’re working to rebuild.

Is this safe during pregnancy?

No. Do not use either cream if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while using it, stop right away and contact your care team.

Is it safe for my family members to be around me after I apply the cream?

Be careful right after applying. Avoid direct skin contact with children or anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding until the cream has been absorbed — usually within about five to ten minutes. Always wash your hands after applying.

I started a new medication. Do I need to tell you?

Yes, if it’s a hormone-blocking cancer medication, 5-fluorouracil, or an oral retinoid — these do not mix with either cream. For E3 Advanced specifically, also flag any medication that affects how your body handles copper. For any other new medication, mention it when your prescription renews, or message us sooner if you’re unsure.

I’m also on hormone therapy (HRT). Can I still use this cream?

In most cases, yes. Topical estriol and systemic hormone therapy can generally be used together. The most important thing is that all of your doctors know about everything you’re taking. Make sure both your Fountain provider and the provider managing your HRT are aware of both medications.

I noticed a new or changing mole or lesion on my skin. Should I be concerned?

Any new or changing mole or lesion should be evaluated in person - not because it's necessarily serious, but because early detection matters if it is. We'd recommend seeing a dermatologist or your primary care provider to have it checked.

Your Skincare Routine

Your Skincare Routine

Can I keep using my other skincare products?

Yes, in most cases. Apply this cream first after washing your face, and let it absorb before adding anything else. The main rule: do not use other products that also contain estriol at the same time.

Can I use a retinoid cream alongside this?

Yes. Retinoid creams and estriol work through different pathways and can be used together. If using both on the same night irritates your skin, try alternating — one on Monday, the other on Tuesday. Do not use oral retinoid pills (like Accutane) with either cream without talking to your doctor first.

Can I use serums and moisturizers on top?

Yes. Let this cream absorb for a few minutes first, then layer as usual.

Can I have a facial procedure while using this cream?

Pause the cream before any procedure that breaks the skin or causes peeling — laser, chemical peels, microneedling, or surgery. Talk to your Fountain provider and the person doing the procedure about timing. Don’t restart the cream until your skin has fully healed.

Can I wear makeup over it?

Yes. These creams are used at night, so you won’t usually be putting makeup on right after. But if you need to, wait a few minutes for it to absorb first.

Your Prescription

Your Prescription

What if I run out early?
Message our care team and we’ll review and arrange a refill. If you’re running out faster than expected, double-check that you’re using the right number of pumps.

Do I need a check-in to get a refill?

Your prescription includes refills for one year. At renewal time, you’ll be asked a short question about how things are going. In between, you can message our care team anytime — you don’t need to wait.

What if I want to stop using it?

You can stop at any time — you don’t need to taper off. If you stop, the improvements to your skin will gradually fade over time without ongoing treatment. If you’re thinking about stopping because of a side effect or concern, message us first — there may be a simple fix.

How should I store the cream?

Store it at room temperature, away from sunlight and heat. Keep the pump upright. Keep it out of reach of children. Don’t use it after the expiration date on the label.

About Age-Defying E3 Cream

About Age-Defying E3 Cream

What is Age-Defying E3 Cream?

Age-Defying E3 Cream is a prescription cream that contains estriol — a bioidentical form of estrogen — at a 0.25% concentration. It’s applied to the face once a day at night. It works by attaching to estrogen receptors in your skin cells and helping them produce more collagen, hold more moisture, and build a stronger structure over time.

What is estriol and why is it used for skin?

Estriol (E3) is a bioidentical estrogen that your skin has receptors for. After menopause, estrogen levels drop and the skin starts to thin, dry out, and lose firmness. Topical estriol works directly in the skin to help restore some of what’s been lost. At the concentration used in this cream, it works locally — it does not travel through the bloodstream the way a hormone pill or cream does.

What is the Cleoderm™ base?

Cleoderm™ is the plant-based cream base that carries the estriol to your skin. It contains hyaluronic acid (which draws moisture to the skin surface for fast hydration), bisabolol (a soothing ingredient from chamomile), vitamin E, and a blend of plant oils including tea tree, lavender, rosemary, coconut oil, and shea butter. It has been tested to work safely and reliably with estriol.

Is this FDA-approved?

No. This is a compounded medication, which means it was made for you specifically by a licensed pharmacy. Compounded medications are not approved by the FDA, but they are overseen by state pharmacy regulators. Estriol itself has been studied widely in medical research and has a well-established safety record.

How is this different from regular skincare?

Non-prescription skincare products do not contain estriol. This cream works at a deeper level — it actually changes how your skin cells behave, helping them make more collagen and hold water. That’s different from a moisturizer, which just coats the surface.

Side Effects & Safety — Age-Defying E3 Cream

Side Effects & Safety — Age-Defying E3 Cream

What side effects might I notice?

  • Mild redness or dryness where you apply the cream, especially in the first week or two

  • A few minor breakouts as your skin adjusts

  • Skin that burns a little more easily in the sun — managed by wearing sunscreen every morning

My skin looks red and feels dry. Should I stop?

Not right away. Some redness and dryness in the first week or two is a normal response as your skin gets used to the cream. Keep going at the prescribed frequency and see if it calms down — it usually does. If the redness is severe, gets worse instead of better, or comes with swelling or itching, that’s when you should message our care team.

I’m getting breakouts. Should I stop?

A few breakouts in the first two to four weeks are normal while your skin adjusts. They usually clear up on their own. If they’re severe, spreading, or still happening after a month, let our care team know.

Who should not use Age-Defying E3 Cream?

  • Anyone with a known allergy or sensitivity to estriol or estrogen-based products

  • Anyone with active or suspected breast cancer or uterine cancer

  • Anyone taking hormone-blocking cancer medications (anastrozole, letrozole, exemestane, or tamoxifen)

  • Anyone taking 5-fluorouracil (a chemotherapy drug)

  • Anyone taking oral acne medication with a retinoid (like isotretinoin / Accutane)

  • Anyone whose skin has not fully healed after a recent facial procedure (laser, peel, microneedling, or surgery)

  • Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding

I’m allergic to one of the plant ingredients in the base. What should I do?

Contact our care team before starting or continuing. The Cleoderm™ base contains tea tree oil, lavender, rosemary, coconut oil, shea butter, and bisabolol (a chamomile-derived ingredient). If you have a known allergy to any of these, let us know — we may be able to look at alternative options for you. If you have a ragweed allergy, be aware that bisabolol is derived from chamomile, which is in the same plant family.

About Age-Defying E3 Cream Advanced

About Age-Defying E3 Cream Advanced

What is Age-Defying E3 Cream Advanced?

Age-Defying E3 Cream Advanced is a prescription cream with three active ingredients: estriol (a bioidentical form of estrogen), niacinamide (vitamin B3), and GHK-Cu (a copper peptide). Each one works differently, and together they support your skin in multiple ways at once. It’s applied once a day in the evening.

What does each ingredient actually do?

Estriol (0.3%, also called E3): A natural form of estrogen that attaches to receptors in your skin and helps your skin cells produce more collagen and hold onto moisture. After menopause, estrogen levels drop and skin starts to thin and dry out — estriol helps restore that at the skin level.

Niacinamide (3%, also called Vitamin B3): Strengthens the outer layer of your skin so it holds moisture in better and is less easily irritated. It can also help with uneven skin tone. Many people notice a difference within the first few weeks.

GHK-Cu (0.2%, a copper peptide): Signals your skin to make more collagen and elastin — the building blocks of firm, springy skin. It works through a completely different process than estriol, so the two ingredients complement each other. It also helps reduce redness and protect skin cells. The lavender color of the cream comes from this ingredient.

Why does the cream look lavender?

The lavender color comes from GHK-Cu, the copper peptide. Copper compounds are naturally that color. It won’t stain your skin, and the color doesn’t mean anything about how strong or fresh the cream is.

Is this FDA-approved?

No. This is a compounded medication made specifically for you by a licensed pharmacy. Compounded medications are not approved by the FDA, but they are regulated under state pharmacy law. Each of the active ingredients has been studied in published medical research.

Side Effects & Safety — E3 Advanced

Side Effects & Safety — E3 Advanced

What side effects might I notice?

  • Mild redness or dryness where you apply the cream, especially in the first week or two

  • Tingling or a light stinging feeling when you first put it on — this is from the copper peptide and usually fades within a few minutes

  • A few minor breakouts as your skin adjusts

  • Skin that burns a little more easily in the sun — managed by wearing sunscreen every morning

I feel tingling when I apply it. Is that normal?

Yes — this is one of the most common questions we get about E3 Advanced. The tingling comes from GHK-Cu (the copper peptide). It usually feels like a mild warmth or faint buzzing and fades within a few minutes of application. For most people it gets noticeably milder after the first few weeks. If it feels more like burning, or if it comes with redness that doesn’t go away, message our care team.

My skin looks red and feels dry. Should I stop?

I’m getting breakouts. Should I stop?

A few breakouts in the first two to four weeks are normal — this cream picks up how fast your skin renews itself, which can bring congestion to the surface for a short time. It usually settles. If breakouts are severe, spreading, or still happening after a month, let our care team know.

Side Effects & Safety — E3 Advanced

Side Effects & Safety — E3 Advanced

Can I use my vitamin C serum with this?

Yes, but at a different time of day. The copper in this cream can reduce how well vitamin C works when they’re put on at the same time. The simple fix: use your vitamin C product in the morning and this cream at night. They work well together when used at different times.

Can I use skin acids like glycolic acid or salicylic acid?

Yes, but not at the same time as this cream. Using strong acids and this cream together in the same step can cause too much irritation. Use them in the morning or on a different night. If you’re not sure how to fit them into your routine, message our care team.

I take a medication that affects copper. Is this safe?

Please message our care team before starting. Medications like penicillamine and trientine change how your body handles copper and may interact with GHK-Cu. Your provider will need to review this before you use the cream.

Still have a question? Message the Fountain care team anytime! We're here to help.
